Oxehealth's Digital Care Assistant Featured in CQC's Driving improvement through technology Case Study

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a series of case studies that highlight examples of innovative ways of using technology in care settings.

 
The examples that are highlighted in the report are examples of innovation that CQC have seen or been told about in the course of their work. They are being shared to raise awareness and to encourage health and care services to improve.
 
The series, titled Driving improvement through technology, has a focussed section on Telemonitoring that includes an in-depth feature on Oxehealth's Digital Care Assistant with an overview of our solution including the clinical outcomes that stemmed from Oxford Health's recent service evaluation on a male acute ward, as well as the findings from Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust's eight-month clinical study, conducted in late 2018.
 
The Care Quality Commission note, "we are determined that regulation does not stand in the way of digital developments. Yet using technology and innovation must never come at the expense of high-quality, person-centered care".

They enable optical sensors to alert clinicians, carers and custodians to high-risk activity, take spot vital sign measurements and review activity reports. This helps staff to improve the care of the elderly and vulnerable by reducing injuries and enabling staff to spend more time on hands-on care.
 
A case study has been published about Oxehealth’s work at Manor Hospital, part of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, where falls are a major risk. Staff report that the Digital Care Assistant has “become the sixth member of our team on the night shift.”
 
About Oxehealth’s vital signs measurement software 
Oxehealth uses proprietary signal processing and computer vision to process normal digital video camera data to measure pulse rate and breathing rate and is intended for the non-invasive spot measurement of these vital signs.
 
It is a fixed-installation device for use within single occupancy rooms covered by a framework that mandates periodic checks by a trained professional to ensure subject safety.
